MKRT 181 with Coast Guard on International Coastal Cleanup Day

The Madras Knights Round Table 181, were a part of a great initiative taken by the Indian Coast Guard to clean up the coastal area of Chennai Marina. The event was organized by Indian Coast Guard and there were close to 8000 students participating from all across colleges in Chennai. The cleanup was an initiative to promote Bio diversity and protection of the environmental eco system.

The tablers of MKRT 181 were available in large numbers with their circlers and were there to promote the initiative. Coast Guard Commander Vikram Parashar who had come to MKRT 181 with a proposal to sponsor the initiative thanked the chairman and tablers for their esteemed cooperation and effort.
MKRT 181 sponsored a total of Rs 1, 00,000 of which Area HT Sanjay Ramaswami sponsored Rs 50,000, Chairman Mukesh sponsored Rs 20,000 and the table of 181 sponsored Rs 30,000.
The event was on the 20th of September 2008 at the Marina Beach and the event was flagged off by the Chief Coast Guard. The event started at 7 am and went on it 11 AM.
Students from Loyola, WCC , SRM , Gurunanak College and many other institutions were a pat of it, They collected a lot of waste and bio degradable matter of which the data and statistics were reported. There was a competition conducted among the colleges and the results of the competition were based on the team size, motivation, slogan and data collected.
MKRT 181 received wonderful publicity via print and news media. We were covered by Jaya TV, Sun TV and Win TV. On print media our publicity was done on the Hindu and the times of India.
MKRT 181 thanked the coast guard commandment for the wonderful opportunity given and looked forward to a healthy relationship in the future towards similar initiatives.
